Max Martínez
The City of Miami needs a new leader with new, better ideas and different priorities. Max is fighting for the opportunity to be a full-time leader that the people of his hometown can believe in, depend on, and hold accountable.
"I’ve never been shy about my dreams of changing the world and, to do that, I need to start at home. "
Miami-Made
Born at South Miami Hospital to an immigrant father from Madrid and mother from New York, Max was raised in Coconut Grove. He attended St. Stephen’s until 6th grade and Ransom Everglades from 7th to 9th. From a very early age, he knew sports would be his calling.
Sports develop leaders.
Sports challenge People.
At 15 years old, he bet on himself and transferred to Belen Jesuit, the high school of 3 of the last 6 Mayors of the City of Miami, to pursue a college football career. A year later, he broke Michael Vick’s all-time Nike Combine record.
SPORTS inspire to dream big.
sports teach humility and perseverance.
A few months after breaking the record, Max suffered two bulging discs that put his career in jeopardy, but fought back to play the last 3 games of his senior season and signed with the one school that stayed loyal to him, Cornell University.
sports allowed you to compete & interact with new cultures.
At Cornell, Max played football for 4 years and graduated with a BA in Government in 2013. Not just an athlete, he started and sold his first company, a pickup and delivery laundry service, MaxyClean, during his junior year, and began a non-profit, Cornellious, as a senior. Recipient of the Dyson Citizenship Award, the Bernie Olin Award, and Sigma Nu’s Brother of the Year, he didn’t want to be remembered as just a football player.
Surrounded by some of the brightest people in the world and no longer the best player, Max learned how to use his platform as an athlete to impact the community around him to stand out and succeed.
Sports teach you how to make a name for yourself.
Earned always beats given.
2013-2016
San Francisco, New York City, Madrid
While founding startups, working in private equity, and building strategies, I developed a unique skillset that has always required me to adapt. These were very important years for me because I got to experience how other metropolitan cities worked and many of the concepts in my platform are inspired by my time in these cities.
Sports force you to adapt under pressure.
Not the first time trying to integrate the cultures of Miami.
sports teach that you don’t need to be the center of attention to impact the team.
